Kona Fishing Report August 2011
Kona Hawaii – August 2011 – The Kona Sport Fishing Charter Boat fleet had a spectacular August producing over 325 blue marlin for anglers fishing in Kona. According to the Charter Desk, the Kona charter boat fleet tagged over 250 blue marlin during the month of August and weighed another 67 with three largest marlin weighing in at 980 pounds, 907.5 pounds and 725.5 pounds. During August, one black marlin was weighed in at 446.5 pounds and 18 short billed spearfish were caught with 12 being tagged and released. In addition to the great blue marlin fishing in Kona Hawaii in August, 24 Ahi (yellowfin) tuna were caught with the top three fish weighing in at 197.5 pounds, 189 pounds and 164.5 pounds. Hawaii Fishing Report for Kona July 2011 – July is one of the best months in Kona Hawaii to catch Blue Marlin and the Kona Charter Boat fleet proved that once again this month. According to The Charter Desk, during the month of July, anglers caught 337 Blue Marlin in Kona ( 242 tag and release and 95 weighed in). The three largest blue marlin caught in Kona during July weighed 868 lbs, 815 lbs and 733 lbs. Three fish estimated at over 800 lbs were tagged and released by anglers. In addition to the great blue marlin fishing here in Kona in July, 84 Ahi ( yellowfin ) Tuna were caught this month. The three largest fish weighed in at 229 lbs, 207 lbs and 207 lbs. Kona Charter Boats also reported 2 Black Marlin, 4 sailfish, 19 short billed spearfish and one striped marlin. Read more
Kona Fishing Report for June 2011 – The fishing remained red hot in Kona during the month of June as the peak summer sportfishing season got into full swing. During the month of June, the Kona charter boat fleet saw great action for anglers fishing off the Kona Coast with strong numbers of Ahi (yellowfin) Tuna, Blue Marlin and Shortbilled Spearfish being reported.
According to the Charter Desk, for the month of June the Kona Charter boat fleet reported a total of 100 Blue marlin, with 62 marlin tagged and released and 48 blue marlin weighed in. The largest three blue marlin for the month of June weighed in at 922.5 lbs, 809.5 lbs, and 745 lbs. Of the 62 blue marlin tagged and released by charter boats in Kona during June, five blue marlin were estimated at over 500 lbs. In addition to the great blue marlin fishing this month, 53 Ahi (yellowfin) tuna were weighed in by anglers with the top three fish weighing 206 lbs, 190.5 lbs and 173 lbs. The Kona charter boat fleet also reported 59 shortbilled spearfish, 4 striped marlin, 1 bigeye tuna and 1 swordfish. Read more
Hawaii Fishing Report for Kona – May 2011
Kona Hawaii once again produced strong numbers of Blue marlin and big fish for anglers during the month of May. According to the Charter Desk, the Sportfishing Charter Fleet in Kona reported a total of 24 Ahi (Yellowfin) Tuna, 41 Blue Marlin (13 tagged), 1 sailfish, 26 Shortbilled Spearfish (14 tagged) and 3 Striped Marlin. May started off the peak Summer fishing season strong with 3 Blue Marlin over 500 pounds, 6 over 600 pounds, 2 over 700 pounds and one fish just a few pounds shy of the Grander mark weighing in at 995.5 pounds. Additionally, 8 Blue Marlin were tagged and released with an estimated weight over 500 pounds with the largest being estimated at 750 pounds. Read more
Kona, Hawaii fishing report – Update June 2011 – The second week of June turned red hot in Kona with a number of big fish being reported. On June 8th, three fish over 700 pounds were caught and the following day on June 9th a 983 pound marlin and another one that went 901 pounds came to the leader. Most of the fish were caught just outside of the harbor or in front of town. On June 9th, Captain Jeff Fay and the crew of the Humdinger missed a marlin estimated at 200+ that hit a lure while trolling on a half day charter. Prospects continue strong through the full moon on the 15th of the month.
Hawaii Fishing Report for Kona – April 2011 Kona delivered a typical late Spring bounty in April with lots of shortbilled spearfish and striped marlin showing up. According to The Charter Desk, anglers fishing on charter boats out of Kona Hawaii caught a total of 35 Blue Marlin (19 weighed in and 16 tagged and released), 1 Sailfish, 1 Black Marlin, 43 Spearfish (26 weighed in and 17 tagged and released), and 37 Striped Marlin (13 weighed in and 24 tagged and released).
Of the 35 Blue Marlin caught on charters out of Kona this month, 7 fish weighed over 500 lbs and the largest Blue Marlin weighed in during April weighed 609.5 lbs. In addition to the great fishing for blue marlin, striped marlin and spearfish, anglers also caught 33 yellowfin tuna; the largest weighing over 200 lbs. Read more
Hawaii Fishing Report for Kona – March 2011
Fishing in March continued to reward anglers fishing out of Kona with good numbers of Blue Marlin and Spearfish. Kona continued to demonstrate that it is the best place in the world to test your luck at catching a 1,000 lb blue marlin. According to the Charter Desk, the three largest fish weighed in by the charter fleet tipped scales at 1,062 lbs, 978.5 lbs and 821lbs respectively. In total, anglers weighed 16 blue marlin and tagged another 29 blue marlin during the month of March. Read more
Hawaii Fishing Report for Kona – February 2011
February once again proved to be a good month for anglers fishing out of Kona Hawaii. While the previous two months both produced blue marlin over 1,000 lbs, the top three blue marlin weighed in tipped the scales at 907 lbs, 658 lbs and 654 lbs respectively. In total 29 blue marlin were weighed in and another 30 blue marlin were tagged by charter boats running out of Kona Hawaii.
The spring months prove to be the best for short billed spearfish here in Hawaii, and February kicked things off with 69 spearfish being caught or tagged out of Kona according to the Charter Desk. In addition to the blue marlin and spearfish caught this month, Kona charter boat captains also produced 7 ahi tuna, 1 sailfish and 106 striped marlin for their clients. Read more
Despite a lack of trade winds and less than favorable currents, the crew of the Humdinger managed to tag and release two blue marlin, three striped marlin, and also catch one ahi tuna and a nice mahi mahi for a client on a recent six day charter.
