Kona Report December 11, 2016 – The Big Island of Hawaii – The fishing in Kona has been a bit more up and down the past couple of weeks as several weather systems pushed through the islands. Squally rain showers at the lower elevations and several feet of snow blanketing the volcanic peaks all signal the arrival of the winter fishing season here in Kona. When the weather has been good, the fish have cooperated just fine. Over the last week we had a good mixed bag of Blue Marlin, Spearfish, Ono and Mahi Mahi on charters. We caught a double header of small blue marlin last week on one charter and missed an Ono as well. Earlier in the week we caught a few nice Mahi Mahi and a spearfish as well for clients out on a 1/2 day charter.

There have been some reports from other boats fishing buoys further out of double digit catches of Mahi Mahi as well. There are a few striped marlin also starting to show up and still a few spearfish hanging around as well. We are heading to a full moon mid week, so if the weather holds out for the next few days the fishing should be pretty decent.
