January 2017 – The Big Island of Hawaii – We are catching decent numbers of Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Shortbilled Spearfish and Mahimahi right now. Things have been a little more hit and miss since earlier in the month of January, but that is mainly due to the seasonal weather patterns and fronts that roll through the islands this time of year. The weather is generally very good this time of year, but a little more windy as the fronts move over the big island.

The largest fish we released in January was a 550 pound Blue Marlin. Additionally, we caught a good number of Shortbilled Spearfish and Striped Marlin as well with a few Mahimahi and a couple of big Otaru mixed in here and there. On Feb 4th we tagged and released a Blue Marlin about 175 pounds in the first few hours of our charter. January 31st we tagged and released a nice Blue Marlin about 350 pounds and on January 24th we went 2/2 on Blue Marlin, releasing the 550 pound blue previously mentioned with a Satellite Tracking tag as well as another small Blue Marlin about 150 pounds.
