Kona Goes 2 for 3 For Biggest Marlin in Hawaii this Year
The year isn’t even half over yet and Hawaii has produced three blue marlin over 1,000 pounds. Just in the past week, Granders came back-to-back with a 1,226 lb blue marlin caught in Kona and the third largest grander of the year caught a day later in Maui that tipped the scales at 1,058. The second largest grander of the year, a near carbon copy of the 1,058 lb Maui giant was caught in Kona earlier this Spring weighing just a half pound more. Proof yet again that there is no better place on the face of the earth to catch a giant blue marlin any day of the year!
Earlier this week, the fishing got off to a bit of a slow start, but as the trade winds settled in and the warmer water moved in close, things began to really pick up. On charters this week, we had a good mixed bag of fish caught including a yellowfin tuna we fought all the way to the boat before pulling the hooks, a small blue marlin, a striped marlin, two mahi mahi, a spearfish and one mystery bite we pulled the hooks on early in the fight. What the small marlin (under 100 pounds) lacked in size, he made up for in pure show, jumping repeatedly at the boat and making some great video in the process. Congratulations go out to Robert Peterson who caught his first marlin with us this week. We also landed a few nice Mahi Mahi (Dorado), one about 35 pounds and second one about 8 pounds.
In addition to the Granders caught this week, the rest of the fleet also reported decent catches with several fish over 500 pounds being tagged and released. The water conditions have been calm with only a slight chop as the trade winds picked up and with the moon on the building side, the next week should be excellent here in Kona. You never know when that next grander is going show up!

Fishing Trip Reviews
Captain Jeff and Brett were great! We are seasoned anglers and can tell a top notch operation when we see it and they for sure are! We were able to hook up 2 marlins during our trip and it was just a great experience. We will be back again and for sure will be booking another trip with the humdinger crew!

I had not been offshore fishing in decades and Captain Jeff made me feel so at ease and all that was before I caught a 300 lb marlin. It just got better after that. I cannot suggest a better day.

First time deep=sea fishing and hooked a 150 lb yellow fin tuna! It was a struggle but with the help and encouragement from Capt Brett and first mate Ryan I was able to land the tuna that was as big as me! Only thing I would change would be not to get seasick after all that exertion. Next time I will stay hydrated and let my Dad do more of the work reeling in the big fish. Jack G

Had the chance to book a Kona fishing charter on our trip to the big island and was fortunate to find a half day charter on the Humdinger on short notice. Having done a lot of deep sea fishing on party boats, I wasnt sure what to expect on a private charter. We never fished far from shore, maybe a mile or two at the most. We caught a small blue marlin and a rare speafish and missed a mystery bite. All in all it was a great day and the crew was fantastic. I would highly recommend them.
