Kona Hawaii Fishing Report – February 12, 2015 – The fishing right now is pretty good. Lately we have been seeing and people are catching Mahi Mahi, Spearfish, Striped Marlin and a few Blue Marlin as well. The Shortnose Spearfish is the rarest of all Billfish Species and are sought after by anglers targeting them on light tackle setups.
Most of the Spearfish being caught lately are about 20 to 45 lbs. Kona Hawaii is one of the best places in the world to fish for this species and we have many clients that wait all year for them to show up so they can fly out to catch one to complete their billfish grand slam.
There has also been and few nice yellowfin tunas and a couple of random big bigeye tunas being caught lately. While the fishing remains consistent to relatively good, there have not been as many boats out fishing lately. The weather has been very nice lately, but we do have some windy conditions forecasted for the next few days, but the seas are generally very calm here in Kona due to the protected waters from the mountain and the fact that we fish so close to shore.
As a bonus, this time of year there large pods of whales migrating through the waters just off of the Big Island of Hawaii. We have been seeing good numbers of whales on every charter over the past month.

Captain Jeff and Brett were great! We are seasoned anglers and can tell a top notch operation when we see it and they for sure are! We were able to hook up 2 marlins during our trip and it was just a great experience. We will be back again and for sure will be booking another trip with the humdinger crew!

First time deep=sea fishing and hooked a 150 lb yellow fin tuna! It was a struggle but with the help and encouragement from Capt Brett and first mate Ryan I was able to land the tuna that was as big as me! Only thing I would change would be not to get seasick after all that exertion. Next time I will stay hydrated and let my Dad do more of the work reeling in the big fish. Jack G

Had the chance to book a Kona fishing charter on our trip to the big island and was fortunate to find a half day charter on the Humdinger on short notice. Having done a lot of deep sea fishing on party boats, I wasnt sure what to expect on a private charter. We never fished far from shore, maybe a mile or two at the most. We caught a small blue marlin and a rare speafish and missed a mystery bite. All in all it was a great day and the crew was fantastic. I would highly recommend them.
